Get Rid Of That Paper

When last decorating your home was when Jacksonville Jaguars were playing good, you'll be wanting to update your interior spaces. Over time, styles change, colors fade and that appeal that was once a wondrously designed effective interior scheme, becomes drab and hideous. Interior painting is sure to be a major step with updating. You even may want to consider starting off by getting rid of your old wallpaper. Too bad it wasn’t as easy to change your city’s professional football team!

Paint That Paper

If you have ever had the "joy" and removed wallpaper previously, you will understand how difficult it is to get it off the wall without creating damage or experiencing extreme frustration. In addition, it can be very time intensive. With these aspects considered; the question arises of how can you change the look of your interior space without going through the tedious process of stripping off your old wallpaper? Our goal is to paint new and fresh color as to liven up the inside or your dwelling.
If you could simply apply paint over your old wallpaper; that would be a dream. Painting your wallpaper does require a few basic prep. tasks before painting. But it is definitely cheaper, less time, and nowhere near as hard as peeling off your old wallpaper before accomplishing the interior painting.

If you need your wallpaper removed; or want to paint right over it; the professionals at Pro Color Painting can help you. Give us a call for a fast, comprehensive, free painting quote.

Patch The Imperfections

Most assuredly, the old wallpaper will have some worn, damaged sections or in many cases, uplifting or separated joints. It could possibly have air bubbles as well. So, you’ll need to repair the troubled areas. You can glue any of the loose sections pretty easily. A quick dry glue or spray adhesive is best. If a certain section of the wallpaper has a lot of damage; you will have to strip down that wallpaper in the section and then repair as described below.

The next step is mixing some joint compound or drywall mud and applying it to the damaged edges and the seams. This will hide the seams & provide a smooth consistent look. Sheetrock mud is a great fix for peeled off wallpapers and will help “lock down” the edge, so it won’t peel again. Be sure to always prime the patched areas with a primer to prevent “flashing” under your interior paint.

We recommend priming all wallpaper before painting. And the best primers to use are oil based primers. While harder to work with, and the strong smells that accompany most oil primers make it less than pleasant; oil primers are much safer! Certain glues used to apply the wallpaper originally can react to latex primers and lift additional seams or areas due to the water content of latex based products penetrating through the paper. Pro Color always uses an oil base primer before painting over wall paper. Any smart painting contractor would!

When painting over the primer applied to the wallpaper; lightly sand the walls, removing any boogers or imperfections to ensure a soft sleek finish. Then be sure to choose a high quality interior house paint for your finish coats. You get what you pay for concerning paint, so don't skimp!

When applying the finish paint over the primed wallpaper; paint as you normally would. The surfaces have been prepared properly if the above steps were applied as listed. Keep in mind; (2) two coats are always best and be sure to allow for proper drying times between coats.

These are the steps the professionals use; be sure to follow these procedures if you want to paint over your old wallpaper. Interior painting can be a breeze; even when painting over old, faded and out of date wallpaper. Much easier than getting rid of a consistently under-trained, loosing football team!
