Choosing Paint Color Schemes

Paint Color Schemes
Be a Student
Have you ever wondered what allows some people be able to fabricate and blend color schemes on an otherwise drab canvas? The innate ability to combine colors as to create a certain look or feel to a home. To bring all the hues together to invoke raw emotion; or set the ambiance to an otherwise standard living space.

A "student" perspective tends to see the world with an entirely different perspective and unbiased clarity. To view the world around us like a with untainted vision such as a child, is surely an asset. One of our most famous and talented artist of all time, Pablo Picasso knew the great benefits of being able to paint like a student. Mostly because students are discovering and uninhibited with learning; able to create as they go. This is where imagination and creativity can take on a whole new meaning!

Choosing Color Schemes
When choosing paint colors or schemes many people combine colors while observing the subject matter in front of them. Whether it’s an angle, texture, or a collection of objects on or about the area. They observe and paint based on what they see; instead of how they feel. But how do you bring your theme together using imagination?
Knowing the best method to bring out the detail and contrast is not always at the forefront of the mind. We must tap into a realm that may not feel safe. Take picking the right colors, for instance. It's something that might seem easy at first, but when you're ready to paint my house and staring down a color wheel, you're going to wish you had some professional information.

Some Color Knowledge To Consider

Primary Colors: Yellow, red and blue. These are colors that can’t be created by mixing two other colors.
Secondary Colors: In contrast, there are three colors that are formed by combining the primary colors; they are purple, green and orange.
Tertiary Colors: Created when combining a primary color with a secondary color.
Color may become complicated unless you understand all the components that will allow for a beautiful color scheme.

All the Other Colors
Now we know what the main colors are, but of course; there are more than 12 basic colors available on today’s color decks. How do we achieve so many different paint colors? What develops additional colors is; we make our main colors brighter, lighter, softer, and darker by mixing white, black, and gray in with the main colors.

What is Hue: Hue is another label for “color.” All of the primary and secondary colors are hues. Hue many times refer to the colors being used.

Shade: Shade is the color that you get when you add black to any given hue. Multiple shades are referring to the amount of black added to a certain color. Generally, the shade will not effect as much of the final result as the following considerations.

Tint: The exact opposite of shade, many will not differentiate a color’s shade and a color’s tint. Color in most instances will have shades and tints affecting the appearance. The correct tint is vitally important in establishing your final scheme.

Tone: Adding white and black to a color creates “tone”. Tone can set the mood of the space. It can make the difference of the “feel” you’re going to create once all colors are in place.

Using Our Color Knowledge

Paint Color Choices
Now how do we use our newfound color knowledge to blend and create just the right amount of contract to bedazzle the eye. If you are searching the internet or browsing your favorite home magazine for ideas; you’ll notice; some colors go together and others are just, blah! Keep in mind, remember it’s how our eye perceives color in which we use it. The way in which we use or combine two colors dictates how we perceive it.

So while we may not be too keen on a certain shade of blue; when used along with a bright white it can take on a whole new character. Then a third color can be considered to add to the array. This is where modern day fan deck can help. Most often the display a analogous color scheme to help with your choices.

Blended Color Schemes
These are made by pairing one main color with two other colors directly related to the original. This may take the guess work out of the “color pickin” process. Analogous method don’t create high contrasting color schemes, they usually create a softer effect, with minimal contrast and blend.

Final Color Theme Thoughts
Whatever paint colors you decide on, try and keep in mind that this is your personal space. You will be looking at it for quite some time; so be brave, make it an original creation. Don’t feel shackled by the traditional paint color schemes. You may want something to stand out from the rest. After all, you are the best judge of all…
